Apple iPad Event Close, More iPhone 5 Rumors Emerge

Tim Cook is a busy man, acting as CEO while Steve Jobs is away, Cook also manages to hold two other important positions at apple, COO and CFO. In a recent interview with Forbes, Tim seemed to let on that a cheaper, lower quality or somehow less than normal version of an iPhone was in development or at least in the making.

A Chinese-based website posted a picture claiming to show a slide-out mechanism that will be placed in the iPhone 5. If the rumors are true, the iPhone 5 could and probably would be equipped with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. When the iPhone 5 is officially announced by Apple, we should begin to get free iPhone 5 offers, so sit tight!

Apple Being too Aggressive with App Store Policy?

Readability is a service that strips away ads and banners to better let users read the content better. It’s subscription-based model lets users pay a low monthly fee why sharing the majority of revenue with publishers and writers. Apple recently rejected Readability’s iPhone and iPad application submission, pointing them to 11.2 in the App Store Review Guidelines:

11.2 Apps utilizing a system other than the In App Purchase API (IAP) to purchase content, functionality, or services in an app will be rejected.

Having had their technology added to Apple’s Safari browser just last year, Readability was very upset about the decision, so much so that an open letter to Apple was written. You can follow this story on readability’s blog where the comments continue to poor in.

Better Gaming with an iPhone Game Controller

Casual games are fun and work great on the iPhone 4 but some just get the urge to have a little more “involved” gaming experience. The iControlPad gives you the ability to hold a device as if it were a traditional video game controller.

Although the cost is a bit steep ($75), if you’re looking to play shooters or racing games, this add-on is something to seriously consider. iControlPad fits the iPhone 4 perfectly but it also works with a slew of other smartphones like the iPhone 3, iPhone 3G, iPhone, iPhone 3GS, iPhone4, iPod touch (some require padding), Motorola Backflip (needs padding), Lg Optimus S, Lg Ally, Blackberry Touch, Samsung Intercept (may require adjustment), HTC Dream, T-Mobile G1, Era G1.

Consumers to see 90$ Million is Refunds from Verizon

According to a resent report conducted by BGR, Verizon consumers have been overcharged an estimated 90$ million in the last year. Verizon seems to be making good on their error and consumers should see refunds deducted on the billing statement they receive. Some are calling this a tactical move to win over AT&T customers when the iPhone 4 comes to Verizon. Here is snippet from the report.

”In October and November, we are notifying about 15 million customers, through their regular bill messages, that we are applying credits to their accounts due to mistaken past data charges. We will mail former customers refund checks. In most cases, these credits are in the $2 to $6 range; some will receive larger credits or refunds. ”

How do you feel about this? Does this change anything for you, were you already preparing to switch from AT&T or are you staying put?

New iPod Touch Rumors Begin

Several reputable blogs and online news outlets are reporting on this rumor. A fourth generation iPod Touch may be in the works. Retailers say that this new iPod touch will come with many of the new features from the iPhone 4: 5 megapixel camera, facetime, HD video recording and a gyroscope.

U.K. retailer John Lewis said the information is based on “noises we’re hearing from suppliers”. Though no mention was specifically made of a forward-facing camera at the company’s presentation in London, it did say that FaceTime calling over Wi-Fi would be possible “so you can communicate with friends at zero cost.”

Speculators say the fourth generation iPod Touch could hit store shelves in September of this year.
